Greetings Fellow KYC Members:
I hope this message finds you well. It seems from what I can gather that members and families are safe and healthy (pandemic-wise). Certainly, a social distancing mandate effects our interaction as a social club. If we all do our part, I hope we can still enjoy our club and our boats the rest of the summer.
I am sorry for the lack of communication resulting in this combined June/July newsletter. It seemed we were always dealing with issues around our reopening complicated by trying to keep my boat sailing and racing. Also, unfortunately, the links to last night’s meeting didn’t work for many – I hope if you haven’t virtually attended you have been reading minutes and messages online. I’ll try to give a short state of the club here.
Our reopening went as well as can be expected and has continued progressing with the leadership of our new manager, Jen Miller, and the Galley Committee headed by Deb Strouf. There will be an introduction by Jen herself in this issue. Fortunately the weather has helped as we have a great outdoor space to social distance. As with many restaurants, customer numbers are limited, and our financial state would be dire if we did not get several SBA and WEDC grants and loans. Thanks, again, to Joyce Rinehart and Deb Strouf for spearheading and following thru with all the paperwork. As we use this money to take care of operating expenses, the restaurant has come thru generating needed income thru good planning and organization. This will go towards reducing and hopefully eliminating some of our outstanding, high-interest debt.
My thanks as always to the stalwart volunteers that we can always count on for derrick house and grounds work. Of course, to keep the older equipment repaired in house way under budget, we rely on House Chairman Jim Strouf. That said, a club like ours is only as good as its membership. I hope everyone can find a way to be an active member and support our club. We are continually looking for help in the financial and communication areas. I am pleased that thru our restaurant, the Sailing Center, and racing, we have attracted new members. Please welcome them when you meet them.
I would like to announce the board has reinstated a 10% discount for members – an affordable way to entice members to use the restaurant and a nice perk particularly for social members. It is not automatic, so identifying yourself and presenting a card is required. I know many of us feel there is good value in what we get and don’t need or take it – as a way of further supporting the club.
I hope our updated Covid policy is reassuring enough that you all feel comfortable and can find a time to enjoy our club and restaurant and still adhere to safe social distancing. Hope to see you ( with mask ) at the club and on the water.
Ron Otto, Commodore
