Spring Greetings KYC Members
Just when we thought spring had sprung – April Fools! High winds, rain then snow and ice, we have had it all. And because of that, we have canceled our Annual Fools Regatta not once but twice because no one was foolish enough to take a Hartley into the harbor! We have also rescheduled our first launch date although Doug and his crew have managed to get a few boats into the water despite it all. I hope those who are in are doing OK. Before this latest bout of bad weather came our way, the dock was filled with people cleaning, sanding, painting, and polishing their boats in preparation for launching and then, April Fools again… We are hopeful for this weekend which is looking better. Watch for launching news and let Doug know if you plan to go in on Saturday.
Around our Club things are happening everywhere. Our Education, Community Connections and Social Connections Committees and our Strategic KCSC/KYC Planning Committee are all working hard to achieve our club goals. Thanks to Sue Hill, last Sunday many of us participated in a really great presentation of The Worth of Water: A Great Lakes Story and Educational Event at the Kenosha Public Museum. Alyssa Armbruster and Julia Robson shared the story of their 343 mile trek from Milwaukee to Lake Superior to raise awareness and money to promote the health of the great lake which is a fragile ecosystem. They also presented their trailer for their upcoming movie. I encourage you to watch for its release later in the year. Their current progress can be viewed on Facebook and YouTube. Look for Walk to Sustain our Great Lakes. Titus Seiheimer from the Wisconsin Sea Grant taught us much about the invasive species in the Great Lakes and I think we all learned something new. In spite of a very snowy Sunday, we had a full house and many enthusiastic participants.
We were able to connect with many throughout the community with whom we share these shores of Lake Michigan and invited all participants back to the KYC for appetizers and drinks. It was a great day and I hope you saw the Spectrum Channel 14 and Kenosha News coverage.
Our bar is doing fantastic in its new beginnings and we are looking forward to expanding our food offerings and inviting the public in. Our Galley Committee is doing a great job working through the details of giving birth to this new venture and we look forward to their reporting to our next Member Meeting on May 2nd.
A huge thank you to the Galley Committee for all their hard work!
Save the dates for our upcoming events:

I encourage everyone to visit our bar often and enjoy your 20% discount and free soda and coffee, bring your friends, enjoy some great drinks and some of the great food that Clair has been preparing. We are currently open 3:00pm to 9:00pm Wednesday – Friday and 11:00am to 9:00pm Saturday and Sunday. Clair and Brody would be happy to welcome you at any time. As we move into spring and, hopefully, warmer weather, watch for our hours and services to expand.
I am very excited about all that is happening and I look forward to seeing you all around the Club!
